Surface variation comes from both intention and chance. Ash, flame, and movement in the wood kiln create layered blues, greens, and soft earth tones, with subtle shifts that echo water, sky, and weathered landscape. Carved lines, faceted planes, or quiet bands reference natural textures that appear throughout my work—branches, stone, and changing ground underfoot.
Fired to cone 10 in a wood kiln, each mug carries the marks of its firing: slight variation in color, depth, and surface that can’t be duplicated. These differences are part of the process and what make each mug one of a kind.
