Handbuilt "Carry Form" Vessel
This hand-built wood-fired vessel is part of the Carry Form series, inspired by the structure, presence, and quiet utility of designer leather handbags—objects made to be handled, carried, and lived with. The arched handle and faceted body give the form lift and intention, while the weight and surface keep it firmly rooted in clay.
Natural influences emerge through both carving and firing. Incised lines echo grasses, branches, and landscape textures that appear throughout my work, while ash, flame, and reduction move freely across the surface. Earthy tones settle into seams, edges, and low points, creating depth that shifts with light and angle.
Built with clay slabs and fired to cone 10 in a wood kiln, this piece carries the unmistakable marks of its making—atmospheric variation, subtle irregularity, and surfaces shaped as much by fire as by hand. While sculptural in presence, it maintains a functional sensibility, standing solidly on lifted feet and inviting close interaction.
This is a one-of-a-kind piece, where contemporary form meets natural process.
